Children's
Religious Education Classes
Religious Education (R.E.) classes
are held for children during the Sunday service, giving them a broad background
in world religions, ethics and Unitarian Universalism. Unitarian Universalism
was founded on a set of shared values. In the Religious Education classes,
these values are the most important things we teach and model.
We also give children building blocks with which to form their
own beliefs. Our religious education classes are taught by members
of our congregation, following UUA curriculum selected by the Religious
Education Team.
How it Works — All children and youth are included in the first
portion of the Worship Service and may participate in singing and
the children's message. After the first twenty minutes, the children
leave with their teachers for their Religious Education classes,
or they are also welcome to stay in the service with their parents,
if they wish. Occasionally, for holidays and special events, the
children stay throughout the service.
Childcare
is offered for infants and toddlers, or they may remain in the Worship
Service with their family members.
Youth,
ages 14-20 years, are welcome to participate in any of the Religious
Education or Social Justice opportunities offered to the adult members
of the congregation. Occasional meetings are held with the youth from
neighboring Churches.
There are additional
opportunities for youth (ages 14–20) at
the District and Continental level including Social Justice and leadership
training. To find out more about districtwide youth activities, contact: www.pswdyruu.org.
Families
with children meet for social and education events, including picnics,
classes, potluck dinners at members homes. Recent evening classes for
parents and their children have included Evensong
for Families and Being a Unitarian Universalist Parent. Check the current edition
of our newsletter, The Flame for the current
meeting schedule.
